Website Hosting Is Not That Difficult

by Tem Balanco

Website hosting is a process that is very straightforward, but for first time site builders it can be a puzzling procedure. If you know a few basic things, though, it can be quite simple to get your website up and running online.

The key to understanding this is in understanding IP addresses. A group of computers at a single location that are connected together make up something called as a Local Area Network, or LAN. A group of LANs connected over remote connections is called a Wide Area Network, or WAN. To put it simply, the Internet is nothing but a growing set of interconnected Wide Area Networks.

Everything present on the Internet needs to have its own unique identity,as is the case with every other network. This is achieved with the use of IP addresses. An IP address consists of 4 numbers each separated by a period. Each number can be anything from 1 to 255. For instance 210.204.156.183 is an IP address. This system provides us with 4.2 billion unique identities.

Website hosting companies have their own collection of IP addresses. When you sign up for your hosting plan, you will be given an IP address from the company's collection. You will then note that the IP address that you have received matches your individual public hosting area, which is more commonly known as your domain.

Within this framework, someone entering your IP address will be directed immediately to your domain itself. If your IP address is 210.204.156.183, for example, and you copy and paste the number into a browser, you will arrive at this particular web site.

When you are trying to cut expenses by using budget companies for your website hosting they will typically designate one IP address for many customers. Unfortunately, this lumps you all in the same category for spam filters and black lists. What that means is that your website, while not being guilty of any offense, will be blacklisted or blocked along with the offending party's website. In order to avoid this scenario while web hosting, make sure that your hosting provider gives you your own IP address and that it will not be duplicated or shared with anyone else.

Hosting a website is a clear-cut process, but sometimes site builders can be puzzled when hosting a site for the first time. It is very easy to host a website on the Internet if you possess certain basic knowledge. Every website hosting company owns a reserved block of IP addresses. One of these addresses will be assigned to you for your exclusive use. By checking on the details of your domain, you will find that its IP address matches up with the one obtained from the hosting company. It is always preferable that the hosting provider always gives you your own independent IP address for web hosting.
